Katie Thomas

Katie is a born and bred Crested Butte native. After high school, she spent time in Fort Collins, Syracuse NY, and Denver before returning to her beloved valley to reside.

A blown knee drove her to seek out yoga for physical therapy, which shortly became a permanent part of her life. She jumped at the opportunity to undergo teacher training with Kristi and all the wonderful teachers of the Coop. It was a perfect occasion to fulfill a lifelong dream right here, in her own backyard.

When she's not practicing yoga, she spends her time doing what all Buttians do; working multiple jobs, skiing, biking and other thrill seeking activities. Katie is so excited to be able to teach at the Coop, surrounded by so many incredible teachers and truly wonderful community members. Namaste.

Vinyasa Flow
In Sanskrit, the word “Vinyasa” translates as “to place.” A vinyasa flow style class is a practice where we sync the movements of the body with the breath to create a state of peace, connection and mindfulness. Vinyasa can be fast or slow, strenuous or relaxing. I love to play around with the poses, to see if I can feel where I hold my tension, and to focus on where to let go.

Restorative
Restorative yoga is a slower practice, where we use props and gravity to sink into deeper stretches. We attempt to release and relax the mind as well, giving your body a peaceful chance to open, and your mind the chance to focus and calm. Perfect class for the end of a busy day!

Yin Yoga Nidra
This style of yoga uses long, passive holds to work on the deep, dense connective tissues of the body. The class will move through 8-10 poses each focusing on our hips, thighs, backs of the legs and lower spine. The sequence of poses aligns with the meridian channels of the body. Each class is designed to integrate our nervous system and physical body with the energetic body. This evening practice finishes with a short 15-minute guided savasana called Yoga Nidra. This specialized form of yoga helps the mind completely relax reducing tension and anxiety.
